The YMCA Lifeguard course trains participants to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatics emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. To complete the course participants must pass the entry exam, attend all lessons and pass the final written and practical exams. The Lifeguard course is approximately 32 hours long. Upon completion of this course participants will receive a YMCA certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/BLS (CPR)/AED and Emergency Oxygen, valid for 2 years.
Participants must be 16 years old by the last day of the course to register.
