This program is a special group of instructor led classes designed for people with Parkinson’s disease and or other neurological conditions. Some of the classes need the help of volunteers as well. We have been running a Rock Steady Boxing class twice per week and that will now be called Neuro-Power Boxing and will continue on the same days of the week and time as it has been running. The schedule also has a Cycling and Yoga class twice per week, Ping Pong twice per week, a participants round-table and other classes in Resistance Training, flexibility, and Tai Chi will be added shortly.
The program runs in three or four sessions during the year. The sessions last about 9 – 13 weeks depending on the time of the year and there is a one or two week break between sessions. The goal of the Neuro-Power classes is to provide a full week long schedule of safe classes that help people with neurological conditions to maintain higher rejuvenation levels, which slow the premature aging associated with disease and sedentary lifestyle. The program can provide a platform to improve the mental, emotional, and physical health of people with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions. The emphasis is placed on improving quality of health, life and ability to perform and enjoy activities of daily living.
Registration and pre-testing required to begin taking classes.
The classes listed as SLI Neuro-Fit are provided by Supportive Living Incorporated and require special placement and are not available for walk-in. Additional registration and possible charges are required with the SLI classes. These classes follow a College/University schedule and provide one on one training for participants.
Because of the caring and generosity of our donors we are able to offer the program included as part of a membership to the Merrimack Valley YMCA. Non-Members may participate if space permits and charges will be based on the length of the session.
