LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a FREE twelve-week, small group program designed for adult cancer survivors, family members and caregivers. This program fulfills the important need of supporting the increasing number of cancer survivors who find themselves in the transitional period between completing their cancer treatment and the shift to feeling physically and emotionally strong enough to attempt to return to their normal life or their “new normal.”
Contact Paul Discipio at pdiscipio@mvymca.org to register for our upcoming free 12-week session.
Assistant Health and Wellness Director Nicole Bennett on the goals and benefits of LIVESTRONG.
The goal of LIVESTRONG is to help participants build muscle mass and muscle strength, increase flexibility and endurance and improve functional ability. Additional goals include reducing the severity of therapy side effects, preventing unwanted weight changes and improving energy levels and self esteem. In addition to the physical benefits, the program provides participants a supportive environment and a feeling of community with their fellow survivors, YMCA staff and members.
You do not have to be a YMCA member to participate. Space is limited for each session, to allow for a low instructor-to-participant ratio.
LIVESTRONG at the YMCA offers a welcoming environment, a sense of belonging and a supportive community. Here’s what past participants have had to say about the program.
I’ve learned a lot about various and alternative ways to work out. I’m grateful for this opportunity to meet such wonderful staff and survivors. It’s been physically and emotionally uplifting! Thank you!!” – E.A.

“From the beginning of the Livestrong program I have been impressed with the dedication, enthusiasm, and willingness to help I saw in the instructors and other Y personnel involved. The physical and emotional support given to each participant was a welcomed and important part of our total healing. The Livestrong program has helped me beyond my expectations and I am sincerely grateful. Thank you.” – D.M.
