Sports & Teen Director and Assistant Camp Director

The Program Director, under the supervision of the Camp Otter Director and the Associate Executive Director provides safe, motivational and knowledgeable leadership to the members, volunteers and program participants.  The director is responsible for youth and teen programming at the Methuen Y, including but not limited to arts, sports, outdoor education, and teen leadership programming.  The director is also the Assistant Director at Camp Otter and has responsibilities in the Lawrence YMCA School Enrichment Program.  All MV YMCA staff will help champion a culture of service excellence and support and advocate the mission and values of the YMCA.

• Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
• Develops and provides oversight to the annual budget for Methuen programs.
• Develops quality standards for programs, with the highest standard of quality service in mind.  Sets and monitors annual quality and enrollment goals for programs.
• Provides support to Camp Otter Director in hiring, training staff, managing facilities, marketing camp, and behavior management of campers.
• Teach regularly in the Lawrence Public School Enrichment Program.
• Assures compliance with state and local regulations. Ensures that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.

• Facilitates communication and provides leadership. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
• Maintains strong relationships and an open communication line with Camp Director and Executive Director and the Methuen and Camp staff teams.
• Collaborates with Branch Executive Directors at various locations to schedule and maintain facilities that are used for the various programs

• Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation
  in all programs.
• Responsible for the marketing and distribution of program information, organize and schedule program registrations.
• Assists in other YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
• Additional duties assigned by management to best serve the needs of the community.

• This position requires work on nights and weekends and may require overnights
• There may be periods during the year where the work week exceeds 40 hours

• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Position requires ability to walk/run around the rough terrain of hiking trails
• Able to stand/move without sitting for four to five hours at a time
• Able to handle all emergency sitautions that may arise

• BA / BS degree in education, sociology, psychology, physical education, recreation, human services or related field (preferred).
• Minimum of one-year experience working with youth, teens, and adults in a recreation setting.
• Program planning and development experience.
• Must have good human relations’ skills to facilitate positive relationships with community agencies, staff, volunteers, parents, members and program participants.
• Knowledge of the YMCA Movement and trends in the “field”.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of employment
• Completion of Child Abuse Prevention training within 14 days of employment
