Teen artists and musicians will get the chance to show off their skills and compete for the win at the Music and Arts Festival this spring. The Music and Arts Festival will take place on Friday, March 15, 2019 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Methuen YMCA, 129 Haverhill Street in Methuen. Young artists and musicians from around the Merrimack Valley will have the opportunity to perform for a panel of expert judges and win a prize. The event will feature teens who have been honing their musical talents at the Methuen and Lawrence YMCA Music Clubhouses, but it is also open to any singer, artist or band whose members are between the ages of 10 and 18. A live audience will have the chance to root for their favorites in this competition for the next local superstar. Awards will be given for Best Solo Performance, Best Group Performance and Best Visual Art.
Fun for the whole family
The show, which is in its fourth year, promises to be fun for the whole family. Event organizer, Methuen YMCA Music Clubhouse Director Alex Delorey says it’s also a great opportunity for the young contestants to get experience performing in front of a live audience and to showcase their talents. The Methuen YMCA Music Clubhouse offers free music lessons to young people in a small group setting, blending informal instruction with confidence-building and fun. “A key part of the YMCA’s mission is youth development,” said Delorey. “At the Methuen YMCA Music Clubhouse, we help kids find their voices and express themselves through music, which builds confidence and self-esteem.”
The Methuen YMCA Music Clubhouse has been offering free singing and music lessons to teens in the community since 2014. Kids can learn to play a variety of instruments including guitar, piano, drums, and more. The clubhouse also offers voice lessons and songwriting, as well as open mic nights, workshops and a live podcast every month.
To enter the Music and Arts Festival, participants must attend one of the following qualifying events:
