Planned Giving (sometimes called Gift Planning or Legacy Giving), is the process of making a charitable gift as part of your financial or estate plan, allowing you to support the YMCA, while also achieving your financial and estate planning goals.
Planned gifts support the Y’s endowment fund, are carefully managed to ensure they continue to support the Y’s mission for generations to come.
Types of Gifts
Some planned gifts provide life-long income and financial benefits to donors. Other use estate and tax planning to support both charity and heirs in ways that maximize the gift’s impact while minimizing its effects on the donor’s estate. Still others are simple charitable gifts such as cash, securities, or those made through a will or trust.

Your planned gift to the Merrimack Valley YMCA’s endowment creates a financial foundation for the organization. The main investment remains untouched, and the interest can be used, at the discretion of the Board of Trustees, in a variety of ways to advance the YMCA’s long-term goals. A strong endowment is a critical resource for the Y in many ways, including:
Establishing New Initiatives
The endowment can provide critical startup funds for a new program, providing stability and time to get a program off the ground.
Supporting Capital Improvement and Annual Budgets
In lean times, the interest from endowed funds can support needed capital improvements and bolster annual budgets.
Demonstrating Stability to Partners and Funders
A healthy endowment assures our foundation funders and partners that the YMCA is planning for the long term, making us an excellent partner for long term grants and multi-year gifts.
Heritage Society
The Merrimack Valley YMCA Heritage Society is a very special group of people who have chosen to have a lasting impact by generously making or planning future gifts to the YMCA’s endowment.
The purpose of this society is to encourage thoughtful gifts as a primary means of building an endowment capable of providing lasting support for the Y’s mission and to recognize the members whose leadership, service and devotions to the Y have created this heritage.
The Heritage Society meets throughout the year to enjoy the fellowship of new and old members, find inspiration in the YMCA’s work and receive updates on programs assisted through the endowment.
